Cancer Treatment Centers of America has bumped a long-time executive to president and CEO of the Atlanta branch.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America has bumped long-time executive David Kent to president and CEO of the Atlanta branch.

Kent, who joined the cancer care network of hospitals in 2002 and most recently served as chief operating officer at CTCA Atlanta, succeeds Anne Meisner, who will focus on the national front as COO of CTCA Hospitals and Clinics.

As the Atlanta group's COO since 2014, Kent has been responsible for overseeing physician leadership, outpatient services, strategic planning, business development and government and community affairs. The CTCA praised him for his working with Georgia legislators to reform the state’s certificate of need requirements in 2008, paving the way for CTCA Atlanta to open its doors in 2012.

Kent oversaw a $50 million inpatient and outpatient services expansion in 2014 that doubled the hospital’s footprint, CTCA said.

“David is a people-first, patients-first leader,” said Gyasi Chisley, president of CTCA Hospitals and Clinics, in a news release. “I look forward to working with him as the newest member of our hospital CEO group as we explore opportunities for hospital growth and health care partnerships that open doors to the specialized care CTCA offers.”

The CTCA network of hospitals and outpatient care centers are also located in Chicago, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Tulsa. The network specializes in the treatment of adult cancer patients with an approach that combines surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy with advancements in precision cancer treatment and supportive therapies.

Gov. Brian Kemp last month signed a series of health-care bills, including legislation lifting restrictions the state imposed on the CTCA hospital in Newnan, Ga.

“I’m honored to take on this role, surrounded by an empowered hospital team that is passionate about serving patients and serving the community,” Kent said. “This is an exciting time, from an agreement with Aetna to passage of House Bill 186, which frees our hospital from restrictions that limit our ability to see more Georgia cancer patients.”

Kent, who earned his MBA at Georgia State University, is a member of the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, Regional Business Coalition of Metropolitan Atlanta and Board of Trustees member at The Heritage School.
